No, I read blogs. As a result I am convinced that:
- What we "know" to be true re: diet and exercise is anything but.
- The evolving understanding of above is more complicated than something like "carbs are bad."
- An improper (i.e., standard American) diet has massive side effects, beyond just becoming a fatty waiting in line for Costco samples.
But just because this is still evolving doesn't mean we can't be Engaged Eaters and Exercisers. We know enough to get started.
(Otherwise you divest of such engagement to the USDA, decades-old medical training, and common knowledge. That's silly. The biggest "chemical" impact on your body comes via the food you put in it five times a day.* Engage.)
Here's what I did and would recommend:
- Read at least one book: Good Calories, Bad Calories, which will utterly convince you.
- Read the other books I recommend.
- Stop eating wheat and sugar and vegetable oils; start eating more animal fat, eggs, cream and coconut oil; think about your omega fats.
- Stop cardio, unless you love it. Otherwise just be active. Then, lift once a week.
* This statement has not been validated by the FDA. And why should it have been? What do they know? Also I made it up. But it's pithy and feels right, doesn't it?
